Lady O, First Lady of Fashion

First Lady, Michelle Obama has been spreading the holiday cheer with her, Simple Gifts Theme.  Each year the First Lady picks a theme for the holidays.  This year Lady O picked, the SGT, so that we could all focus on the simple things in life that we appreciate most.

And while she's been out, she's been true to her title as, the First Lady of Fashion.  In fact she made history on Friday, when she wore an all black vintage dress created by the late desginer, Norman Norell.  Mrs. Obama picked the dress up at, New York Vintage (NVU.com) boutique.  The dress was a 1950s piece.  It marks the first time a first lady has worn a vintage dress to an event.  She wore the dress to the "Christmas in Washington" concert.  She also, rocked Marc Jacobs on the 10th and those are just a few of her many hits this holiday season.

STEM CELLS=HIV Treatment Breakthrough!

MADISON, WI -  MARCH 10:  Jessica Dias, associate research specialist, at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center at University Wisconsin-Madison removes a new batch of Embryonic Stem Cells from deep freeze to be thawed before being worked on March 10, 2009 in Madison, Wisconsin.  On March 9, 2009 President Barack Obama signed an order reversing the Bush administration's limits on human embryonic stem cell research. Scientists at the University Wisconsin-Madison, who were the first to experiment in finding cures to neurological and muscular diseases through stem cell research, are now hoping to receive federal funding to aid in their work. (Photo by Darren Hauck/Getty Images)
The Huffington Post is reporting that a man being called the "Berlin Patient" who was living with HIV and was being treated for Leukemia is "cured" of HIV.  The "cure" is a result of the stem cell treatment he recieved as a part of his Leukemia treatment.  The doctors reported that after long-term treatment of "immune reconstitution" the patient no longer showed signs of HIV, meaning his body was free of the disease.  They stated: "During the process of immune reconstitution, we found evidence for the replacement of long-lived host tissue cells with donor-derived cells indicating that the size of the viral reservoir has been reduced over time. In conclusion, our results strongly suggest that cure of HIV has been achieved in this patient."

This is a major breakthrough!  I can't believe it!  I hope that this isn't just a one case thing.  This will help so many who are suffering with this disease.  This however, isn't a free pass to reckless and senseless living.  Respect yourself and your body!

Swizz & Alicia Adopted A Village in Soweto

The Deans continue their gifting giving, as they have just adopted an entire village in Soweto, South Africa.  This is both beautiful and inspiring.  The two learned of the village while filming a documentary about a woman (with AIDS) and her daughter.  They fell in love with both the people and the village during the filming process and are determined to help build-up this community.  I'm glad to see that they are helping to build communities and families.  I'm looking foward to hearing more about this project.
