Illegal Immigration & Unemployment: The Never Ending Debate

Nevada/Arizona State LineImage by J. Stephen Conn via Flickr

So because the economy is so bad, people are now more than ever blaming their job issues on illegal immigrants.  Here's some info on the matter as per CNN:

U.S Jobs & Illegal Immigrants

  • 130 Million Jobs in the U.S.
  • 8 Million belong to illegal immigrants
Now here's where it get's tricky and one of the reasons people in AZ & the Western Border States are losing it:

  • In California, Nevada & Arizona 1 in 10 jobs are held by illegal immigrants; so people looking for low-skilled jobs in these states do have competition when it comes to looking for these jobs
  • But in states farther East like VA 1 in 100 jobs is being held by illegal immigrants
What kind of jobs are they taking in the U.S.
  • Farming 25%
  • Building Maintenance/Janitorial Services 19%
  • Restaurant Work 12%
  • 17% who work in Construction are believed to be illegal immigrants (this is what's causing major uproar)

So the big question is are the jobs being taken that Americans want or are willing to work at?  This is such a touchy situation that tears me apart!
