Ne-Yo's Libra Scale 2-B a Concept Album and Comic Book

IMG_0465
Ne-Yo made his way into ComicCon 2010 in NYC this Saturday for a Q&A session with Marvel Comic's founder Stan Lee.  The two are teaming up for Ne-Yo's upcoming album, Libra Scale.  The album will be a concept album about a garbage man turned superhero.  He wrote the comic book to accompany the album,  and like the true superstar that he is, he turned to Mr. Lee to help make the comic come to life.

The Q & A session was hosted by Ms. Info.  Libra Scale is about a regular guy named Jerome, who's just living his life.  Until one day he is granted superpowers under the condition that he never fall in love.  Jerome's exploits have been well documented in Beautiful Monster, Champange Life and One In A Million.  These three videos will serve as the story line for the comic book.  The story will feature two more videos which will reveal Jerome's ultimate outcome: To Love or Not to Love...

The videos have been very creativative and I'm loving the songs.  OIAM being my favorite thus far.

Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls Generating Oscar Buzz

Looks like Tyler Perry's star brigade, For Colored Girls, which hits theaters, November 5, is generating oscar buzz already!  The movie which boasts an all-star cast is garnering a lot of acclaim.  Especially for actors Anki Noni Rose, Loretta Divine and for Tyler Perry himself.  The buzz was enuff to get the film moved up to November 5 (originally slated for Jan 2011), so that it could be considered for awards season voting.

In addition to the heat behind the movie, Atlantic Records just released information regarding the soundtrack to the movie, which will feature legends such as Nina Simone, Gladys Knight, along with contemporary acts, Janelle Monae, Estelle and Leona Lewis.  Read on for tracklisting.

Ntozake Shange's Tony Award Winning Play; Tyler Perry's Next Big Thing

Tyler Perry's next film will be an adaptation of Ntozake Shange's, award winning play, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.  The film is set to hit theaters, Friday, November 5.

Ntozake originally wrote the play in 1975.  It was first staged in California before hitting Off and eventually The Great White Way (Broadway).

The play is written as a series of 20 poems (collectively called a "choreopoem").  Which was originally performed by a cast of seven women.  Each woman only known by a color.  Their color a big part of their own story and life experiences.  Here are some of their names:   Lady in Yellow and Lady in Purple.  The poems deal with: love, abandonment, rape and abortion.  Just your basic daily issues that women (all women) of color have to deal with.

Here's and excerpt about the book from Wikipedia:  The poems deal with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion, embodied by each woman's story, i.e. Lady in Blue's visceral account of a woman who chooses to have an abortion, and Lady in Red's tale of domestic violence. The end of the play brings together all of the women for "a laying on of hands," in which Shange evokes the power of womanhood as the Lady in Red begins the mantra "I found God in myself/and I loved her/I loved her fiercely."
Tyler's adaptation will focus on nine women and deal with more modern day situations, although many of the issues will be the same.  He has called on some of Black Hollywood's most esteemed women to play the key roles.  His main eight are: Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Kimberly Elise, Loretta Devine and Whoopi Goldberg, with Macy Gray as Rose, playing a ninth key character.

He's moved away from the colors as names and given the women modern-day names, however each woman's color is still represented by their clothing.  Looks like Janet who's character's name is Jo, represents Red and Anki Nona Rose represents Yellow.

Two of young Hollywood's most promising stars Jayden Smith and Justin Bieber enjoyed some R & R in the president's birth state.  Justin is in Honolulu for two sold out shows.  Just before his second show he took some time out to sight-see with good friend Jayden.  They went for a boat ride on a catamaran called the Mai Tai.  Also along for the ride was Jasmin Villegas.

The two also performed their duet Never Say Never at the sold-out show.
