Gearing Up For World AIDS Day
Image via Wikipedia
Alicia, through her Keep A Child Alive charity, is once again proving that she is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Her charity has raised millions of dollars through its, Black Balls and fundraising. Now Alicia has taken it even further. She, Swizz, Gaga, Serena Williams, Justin Timberlake, Kim K., Diddy, Ryan Seacreast and a host of other big names, who dominate Twitter & Facebook, signed off of their social networking accounts and will not return until they raise a million dollars for Keep A Child Alive.
They have declared their cyber deaths or 'Digital Life Sacrifice' to help remind us all of the children suffering and dying endlessly in both Africa and India because, they lack basic medical care. Alicia says of DLS: ''We're trying to make the remark, 'why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we're all from?''
BRAVO, Mrs. Dean and all the other celebs for using their star power and voices for good! You can donate here: http://buylife.org/index.php, Buy Life (Buylife.org)

B's Musical Gumbo 2B Soulful
Beyonce' tells MTV news about her own musical gumbo, stating that she's mixing all the genres of music that she loves together, to create the new sound for her record. She wants to make music that will allow her to step outside of her comfort zone (or our comfort zones). She says that she's inspired by all types of genres and that she's not making an R&B, or typical Pop or Rock record.
To give this gumbo just the right flavor she's looking toward old soul's for inspiration and a little bit of Broadway, too. She tells MTV News that she's getting inspiration from: Fela Kuti, the Stylistics, Lauyrn Hill, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson's, Off The Wall, she says she's kind of mixing all those things together. Sounds like some good Gumbo Soul to me.
B' to MTV (On New Album):
"Well, I wouldn't say I'm inventing a new genre. I'm mixing every type of genre that I love and I'm inspired by every type of genre. I'm not in a box. It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."

Mr. Carter's first book, Decoded, has landed Jay on yet another Best Seller List, this one just a prestige as any, his book has made its debut on the Hardcover Nonfiction Edition of the New York Time's Best Sellers list, at number 3, for the week of December 5th. Ahead of him were former president George Bush and Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken.
The book continues to sale well at book retailers. It's a beautiful book, full of stories and graphic artwork. I love some of the older photographs as it takes me back to yester-year. Just seeing Jay, hearing Jay and getting into the inner Shawn (pause), is enlightening and a true delight to a long-time Jay loyalist, like myself.
Decoded, was also featured on Oprah's "Favorite Things" Show. It also remains one of Amazon's Top 10 Sellers.

Rihanna's AMA Experience
Rihanna opened up the AMAs this year with a medley of her hits: What's My Name, Love The Way You Lie ll & Only Girl. She also took home the award for R&B/Soul Female of the year. Her third time taking home that award. It was her 4th overall AMA.
Beyonce, Finally Talks New Album!
Beyonce's been holed up in the studio for months now working on her fourth studio album. During an interview with ET she finally talked about working on the new album. She's currently writing and producing for the new album. She also says it will have a lot of live instrumentation. Hopefully that means it will have an old school feel to it, more in line with great studio album's like Sade's, Prince's or Michael's Off the Wall.
In the interview she says she's trying to create her own genre. "I have a lot of live instruments that I'm putting into the tracks to try to change the sound and make my own genre of music." Guess B's tired of being put into a box. So will it be a dash of Soul, a sprinkle of pop, a hint of dance, a dose of rock and a smidget of jazz, all the things B loves in music.
She's definitely out to Dance and spread her happiness, something that has been echoed by producers Sean Garrett and Rodney Jerkins. So, is B channeling old school R&B and Pop, genres that used to rely heavily on live instruments and at the same time trying to create a new sound? Prince did it. Mike did it. Madge did it. Now it's B's turn.
So far confirmed producers for the album are NE-YO, Jim Jonsin, Sean Garrett, RocNation's Deputy, Tricky & The Dream and Rodney Jerkins, Q-Tip, Rich Harrison, The Script and Fitzroy Reid.

Rihanna's Red Hot Week
Rihanna released her 5th studio album, Loud, on the 16th and she had one busy week promoting it. The album truly shows her vocal growth. Man Down, has to be my favorite track at the moment followed closely by Raining Men with Nicki Minaj. The album is a blend of Pop, Rock and Reggae, while Rih's voice adds the Soul & Sass.
