Black Girls Rock!

5th Annual Black Girls Rock! Awards

The annual Black Girls Rock Awards Show, which was founded by DJ Beverly Bond, to celebrate the accomplishments and sisterhood of Black Women, aired on BET last night.  It was one beautiful show!  It was a night full of beautiful performances, honorary women (who gave moving speeches) and just and uplifting vibe, overall.

The night started off with a performance by Jill Scott, a beautiful Nia Long who served as hostess, followed by Raven-Symone who won the Young, Black & Gifted Award.   Raven turned presenter when she presented Ms. Palmer (KeKe) with the Who Got Next? award.  Legend Ruby Dee took home the Living Legend Award.  Also honored were Missy Elliott, and Iyanla Vanzant

One of the highlights of the night was a rousing performance of Nina Simone's 1966 song, Four Women which was sung by Kelly Price, Jill Scott, Marsha Ambrosius and Ledisi.  It gave me chills, it was beautiful, uplifting and truly represented what the night was meant to be.  (video after the jump)
